One of my favorite things about Bogota is the abundance of vegetarian options and restaurants spread throughout the city. I think Bogota alone has more vegetarian places than all of Colombia combined.
For my fellow veg travelers, I thought I’d do a weekly vegetarian roundup of a few places that either have a good vegetarian menu or are completely vegetarian. My picks for the week:
La Esquina: Calle 61 #9-03, Chapinero
La Esquina is a fantastic vegetarian restaurant located upstairs on the corner of Carrera 9 and Calle 61 in Chapinero. For 7,500 pesos, or about $4 USD, I got a vegetable soup, spinach salad, rice, a potato topped with some yummy sauce, and a tofu mixture. Rrrico!
Tea Shop: Calle 10 #3-86, La Candelaria
Though not completely vegetarian, this charming 4-table cafe and tea shop has lots of options for us non-meat eaters. A big pancake breakfast, fruit salad, 3 kinds of vegetarian sandwiches, and granola are all on offer. I highly recommend the vanilla coffee, pictured above.
Dados Place: Cra 4 #14-97, La Candelaria
Dados Place has a rather interesting yet random menu. Here you can find what he calls “arepas,” pictured above, that are not actually arepas but Middle Eastern bread. He also has falafels and vegetarian hot dogs. It’s an intimate place set on a busy corner in La Candelaria, making it great for people watching. See that glass of juice? It’s limonada – pure heaven.
Do you have any vegetarian recommendations for me in Bogota? What are your favs?
