Travel Gear

I used this 45-liter backpack for the bulk of my travels which I picked up in Bangkok on Khao San Road in May 2009. Several countries, flights, boat rides, and bus trips later, it is still going strong. The brand is Deuter, and mine is a Futura make similar to the one seen here. I would recommend it to any backpacker.

The laptop I just purchased has to be the best travel laptop ever. My HP Pavilion dm1 is in a new class of laptops called ultraportable, which means it is faster and has a lot more memory than a netbook, and is just a little bit bigger. It’s also able to play back my HD videos, which my former HP Mini wasn’t able to do.

I upgraded to a SLR camera after I grew out of my Canon PowerShot SX130 IS. The camera I use now is the Canon EOS Rebel T2i Digital SLR. I don’t use the standard lens that comes with it, however. I bought the Canon EF 50mm f/2.5 Compact Macro Autofocus Lens, which is perfect for the kind of shots I like to take – macro – as well as portraits, and works nicely for landscapes too. Pictured above is the latest in the Rebel series.

For making videos, I have a Flip camera with 8G of capacity. It’s super user friendly, lightweight, and the picture and sound quality is impressive.
